THE RESOURCE BANK — Be Someone Else’s Resource

Here’s the part of building a Resource Bank people sometimes forget.

You can’t spend your whole life asking, “Who can help ME?”

Sometimes YOU need to be the person who helps.

If somebody calls and you know the answer, give it to them.

If you know someone who would be perfect for a job, make the introduction.

If you had a great experience with a contractor, doctor, mechanic, realtor, hairstylist, or whoever—pass their name along.

If somebody is going through something you’ve already been through, tell them what you learned.

And sometimes the resource you have to offer isn’t a name, money, or some great piece of knowledge.

Sometimes it’s simply showing up.

I think people underestimate how valuable it is to be the person others know they can call.

Not because you can fix everything.

Not because you’re going to drop everything every time somebody has a problem.

But because if you CAN help, you will.

And don’t do it keeping score.

Don’t help somebody today and mentally write down that they owe you one.

That defeats the whole damn purpose.

Over a lifetime, people remember who helped them. They remember who answered the phone. They remember who shared what they knew instead of guarding it like some big secret.

And eventually something pretty amazing happens.

You build a circle of people who help each other.

THAT is a Resource Bank.

It isn’t just about having people you can call.

It’s about being somebody worth calling, too.
