THE RESOURCE BANK — Know Who Knows What

I don’t know how to fix my car.

I don’t know everything about taxes, plumbing, real estate, insurance, construction, computers, or a hundred other things.

And guess what?

I DON’T NEED TO.

One of the smartest things you can do in life is figure out who knows what.

Everybody has knowledge you don’t have.

You know a mechanic. Someone else knows a realtor. Your neighbor knows a great plumber. A friend understands insurance. Somebody you worked with knows computers. Another person knows exactly who to call when your air conditioner quits in July.

THOSE are resources.

And sometimes your resource doesn’t even know the answer.

But they know somebody who does.

That’s why you pay attention to people’s strengths. Remember what they do for a living. Remember who gave you good advice. Save the phone number of the contractor who actually showed up. Remember the person who helped you solve something instead of just talking like they knew everything.

And when you find GOOD people, don’t treat them like disposable contacts.

Recommend them. Pay them fairly. Thank them. Send business their way when you can.

Because knowing the right person can save you money, time, frustration, and sometimes keep you from making a REALLY expensive mistake.

You don’t have to be an expert at everything.

You just need enough sense to know when you AREN’T the expert—and know who to call.

That’s part of building your Resource Bank.

You don’t have to know everything. But you’d better know who you can call.
